Valerie has been a member of BPW/North Sarasota since
2005. She has served two terms as
president, and has also served as first vice president and secretary and has
served on the membership and nominating committees for many years. Valerie joined BPW “to collaborate with other
women” and believes it is an organization that has been around a long time
doing a great service to the community.
She also enjoys working with youth, empowering young ladies and setting
good examples for them.
Valerie is a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church
where she is the part-time Church Administrator, a position she has held for
the past two years. She is very active
in her church and serves as the chairperson of the youth and children ministry.
Valerie retired from the Sarasota Family YMCA. She is a member of the Sarasota County Branch
NAACP, and has been volunteering with Sarasota United for Responsibility and
Equity (SURE) for 23 years. She has been
working for justice since she was a teenager and was instrumental in integrating
restaurants back in the 1960s in Ft. Myers, Florida, where she was born and
raised. She has participated in marches
in support of justice for all, including a march on the Capitol.
In her spare time, Valerie enjoys decorating, gardening and
likes to do word searches and listen to music.
She has three adult children, five grandboys and seven great-grands.
