Gwen has been a member of Business and Professional Women of North Sarasota for 38 years. She has served in many capacities including two terms as president and chairperson of various committees. She currently serves as secretary. Gwen is a retired educator and worked as an elementary school teacher for over 35 years. In the community, she is a member of the Sarasota County Branch, NAACP and FAMU Alumni/Sarasota-Manatee Chapter. She is also a member of the Bradenton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Bethel C.M.E. Church.
Gwen said she joined BPW because she was inspired by a group of professionals who were involved in business ventures. "I saw it as an opportunity for advancement in my career. Networking was also vital to this organization, as well as issues concerning women, public speaking engagements, participating in and donating to worthy causes and raising funds for scholarships in our community."
In her spare time, Gwen enjoys live entertainment - theatre and concerts - reading, board games, shopping, dancing and learning new things. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends and attending class and family reunions. Gwen has one daughter, Bridget, a special nephew, Daryl, who is like a son to her, two sisters and a brother and a favorite niece, Dawnyelle.
